If you need a tool to capture whatever is displayed on the screen, then you need to know that ScreenSnag is the ideal application for this task. It allows you to easily capture the whole screen, a window, or a rectangular area on the screen. It also enables you to caption the screenshot, add a border, edit a screenshot in your default image editor, and more.

You can install ScreenSnag on your Windows-powered machine (XP, Vista, and 7 are supported at the time of writing this) with the greatest of ease. You need only download a small executable, run it, then go through the steps presented to you by a setup wizard.

There are several sections on ScreenSnag interface. From top to bottom, they are: Input (choose if you want ScreenSnag to capture the whole screen, a window, or a rectangular area), Output (select whether you want the screenshot to be saved as a file or to be copied to the clipboard), Options (choose if you want to caption the screenshot, pick if you want to use a timer, and more), and Profile. Down at the bottom of the interface you will see a Storage button that opens the location where the screenshots are taken and a Capture button that starts the screen capture process.

Not even the greenest of novices will have any problems accessing the functionality ScreenSnag has to offer. Using the application is an incredibly simple process: pick the type of screenshot you want to take, pick the output type, play with the options if you want to, then hit the Capture button. The application will capture what you select and save the screenshot based on the settings you specify.

ScreenSnag is freeware. You can use the application for free for as long as you want.

ScreenSnag is very easy to use, works as advertised, and it is free. It’s a properly good screen capture tool.

Pros

Easily install ScreenSnag on a Windows-powered machine. There are several options to play with. Take a screenshot with a simple mouse click. Use the timer to perform captures at specific intervals of time. ScreenSnag is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
